Green IoT: Towards a Sustainable, Smarter and Safer World

Technology has come a long way regarding communication: first there were animals like pidgeons, then telegraphs, later telephones, afterwards computers and the web, and finally the Internet of Things (IoT).

Nowadays, with IoT, everything is being connected to everything. Although its growing use makes our life easier and smarter, it also means that huge amounts of energy are being consumed. According to the National Intelligence Council of U.S, this may pose a risk to power grids in the future. In that regard, Green IoT represents the energy efficient procedures (hardware or software) adopted to facilitate reducing energy consumption and carbon emission of existing applications and services.

In this presentation, Anubha Jain will discuss various technologies and issues regarding green IoT with examples of organisations practicing greener solutions. She will deliberate on different green technologies related to RFID, wireless sensor and cloud computing networks, machine to machine, and data centres. Anubha will also cover GIoT techniques based on hardware, software, awareness, policies and recyclability to attain energy efficient IoT networks; different energy models and strategies to maintain quality considerations.

Dr. Anubha Jain is an Associate Professor and Head of the Computer Science & IT Department at the IIS University (Jaipur, India). An academician for the last 22 years, she has actively contributed to teaching and research. On the one hand, she has been involved in mentoring students in this field as a way to give back to society. On the other hand, she has developed her research in the areas of Soft Computing, Computational Studies, IoT and Software Engineering with a PhD in the field of Information Retrieval and Information Architecture. In that regard, she is also the author of nine books, and has published a number of papers at the national as well as international level. Furthermore, she is a reviewer for many journals and is associated with different academic bodies in diverse capacities including being the convener of the Board of Studies, member of Academic Council, Curriculum Committees, etc. Anubha is also recurrent speaker in QA&TEST having participated in the 2016 and 2018 edition.

This presentation will address the Internet of Things and the ways to make it energy efficient.
